Research Trials
At St Vincent 's Hospital a tremendous amount of work has gone into the requirements for clinical trial application applying to humans. The Hospital application requires the use of the common 'DHS' (Department of Human services) modules, which are available on the Internet. St Vincent 's also has site specific requirement that are clearly set out, thus ensuring a high degree of predictability and consistency between applications. Our committee meets every month.
MRI Department
St Vincent 's has a modern MRI Department staffed by dedicated Neuroimaging radiologists. The unit has extensive experience in MRI diagnosis and evaluation with quantifying brain measurements. The department scanner has a 3 scanners, all Siemens models. One is an open magnet, best suited to claustrophobic patients, the other two are 1.5T scanners.
Pharmacy
The pharmacy at St Vincent 's is familiar with the standards required for accountability and storage of trial medication and provides an invaluable resource in side effect and adverse event management. It has a dedicated clinical trial pharmacist.
Pathology
The Pathology Department provides a comprehensive range of testing. It facilitates trial requirements by having dedicated staff to liaise with trial monitors. The Pathology Department has the facility to store samples.
Information Technology
St Vincent 's has an active Information Technology Department that can assist in computer databases and electronic CRF's. The Department is able to assist in any updates that may be required prior to trial commencement.

Dr Mark Paine, Neurologist, prime interest in MS and Neuro Ophthalmology. Recent experience in Clinical Trials. Completed EDSS training under Professor Kappos in Switzerland .
Dr Chris Plummer Full- time MS Fellow
Dr Gael Pyman General Practitioner, Special interest in nutrition.
Ms Louise Rath, MS Nurse and Trial Co-ordinator. Able to assist in the iJune 2, 2004conduct of clinical trials. Recently attended training in 'DHS' (Department of Human Services) applications for clinical research at St Vincent 's.
